Scope of work (as filed)
Elevator shafts are permitted to penetrate the floor fire separations when a 1 hour fire separation are provided [Sentence 3.13.2.1.(8)]. The elevator shaft enclosures in the station pass through floor assemblies that are required fire separations. The portion of elevator shafts that interface with public circulation spaces is constructed of laminated tempered glass panes that are supported by steel construction. The configuration is not recognized as a system that provides a fire separation with 1 hour fire-resistance rating. The alternative solution is required to demonstrate a level of performance with respect to the attributed objectives and functional statements to the acceptable solution. An alternative solution is proposed to 2012 OBC Sentence 3.13.2.1.(8).The objective is to support the use of a laminated and tempered glass assembly for elevator shafts. The proposed analysis is to examine the thermal exposure from credible fire scenarios to determine the performance of the elevator shaft glazing system and demonstrate that it mitigates the spread of fire and smoke via the shaft.
